Pakistan’s education system faces numerous challenges, from limited access to quality education to a significant gender gap in school attendance. Most children in the country are enrolled in underperforming public schools, while an alarming 22 million remain out of school.This critical issue is driven by factors such as widespread poverty and the unavailability of quality educational opportunities.
THE CHALLENGE WE ARE FACING
In Pakistan, 22.8 million children between the ages of 5 and 16 are not enrolled in school. This staggering number represents 44% of the country’s total child population. Among them, 11.4 million children aged 10 to 14 and 5 million children aged 5 to 9 remain out of school.The situation is even more dire in provinces like Sindh, where 52% of children from the poorest families are unable to attend school, with 58.5% of them being girls. In Baluchistan, the figures are even more alarming, with 78% of girls deprived of education.While 10.7 million boys and 8.6 million girls attend kindergarten through grade five, the numbers sharply drop as they progress, with only 3.6 million boys and 2.8 million girls continuing to classes six through eight.
